Life Lately...January 2015

Paris, France | Travel Diary | #LivingAfterMidnite
I'm debuting my brand new Life Lately series today! Since I consider my blog a LIFE, style & beauty blog, but rarely get to do many lifestyle posts I figured with the new year should come a new series! I'll be recapping what's been going on in my non-fashion & beauty life and sharing some of my favorite things from around the web! Make sure to leave me a comment & let me know what you think. I got a great response from my new & improved Round Up post so I'm hoping you love this just as much! Happy reading...

I hoped you enjoyed my Sprout by HP posts this month! No joke this computer is amazing. First off the things it can do are insane & I'm sure I'll never be able to use it to it's capacity, but also I've been looking into getting a desktop for a while & I couldn't be happier with the resolution and quality of the screen! Look out next month for other post with more new HP technology!

If you follow me on Instagram you know I've been raving about Babeth's Feast! I attended a tasting event last week with Megan & Tracy and we were in heaven! Just a little background...Babeth's Feast in a frozen food store with everything you could imagine! I know what you're thinking...frozen food really? Well be prepared to have your mind blown because this is like no other frozen food on the market! I got to talk to Elisabeth, the founder, before the tasting and she explained it all in one sentence...The frozen food you're used to probably didn't taste very good before it was frozen. Our dishes are made with quality ingredients and flash frozen to preserve their nutritive value & delicious taste! I was SO impressed by everything I ate I couldn't go home empty handed! If you live in NY I highly recommend making a trip, you won't be disappointed!

Life Lately | #LivingAfterMidnite
After going to Babeth's Feast & taking a cooking class at Sur La Table with my mom I've had to urge to cook. & I don't mean my measly dinner for one I cook every night...I mean open the cook book, hit the grocery store & break out the crock pot! Want the recipe to this Butternut Squash & Pear Soup? Email me!

I started reading Gone Girl last week. According to my Kindle I'm 20% done & I just can't get into it. Usually I plow through books (I read about 4 or 5 a month usually), but for some reason I just can't get excited about this one. Have any book recommendations for me once I eventually finish this one?

Wednesday night, Tracy & I took a trip to the theater to see On the Town thanks to TodayTix. I had never heard of the TodayTix app before but once I downloaded it I was super impressed. They are the first mobile-only ticketing platform for theater focusing on last-minute ticket buyers. You can buy tickets up to a week in advance for an amazing price (as low as $30!!). Perfect for tourists or New Yorkers looking for last minute plans. Use Code: ZZNTM fpr $20 off your first purchase ((right photo stolen from Tracy!))

Fashion Week is around the corner & while I think I'm going to keep it low key this season (mostly because trekking around the city from show to show in the 20 degree weather is just not appealing anymore) I love Megan's NYFW on a Budget post!! If you're headed to NY for the first time this is a must read!

Life Lately | #LivingAfterMidnite
My big Paris/London trip is over & now I can't help but stare at the photos itching to book another trip! The only vacation I have on my schedule right now is a weekend trip to visit one of my best friends in Raleigh in March, but after visiting Europe the travel bug bit me hard and I need to book another vacation soon! Where to next? For now I guess I'll just keep posting #tbt photos on Instagram until I have no more left.

Until next month...

How to Winterize your Nails

Gray & Silver Nail Art | #LivingAfterMidnite

I don't know about you but my hands & nails take a beating in the harsh winter weather. Over the past few months I've been religious about applying lotion to my hands, but that doesn't seem to be enough lately. After removing my gel manicure 2 weeks ago my nails were looking especially rough, but thanks to this Winterize your Nails tutorial they are finally getting back to a healthy state (just in time for V-day nail art!)

I started off by cutting all my nails to a short slightly rounded shape because they were constantly breaking. Then I removed my cuticles with Julep's Vanish Cuticle Softener & Remover, the greatest product ever, especially for those who don't like to cut their cuticles, this literally melts them away. Lastly I used Brilliance Glycolic Scrub to exfoliate dirt, oil & dead skin and reveal brighter, smoother skin.

Daily I've been applying Rock Star Hand Cream & Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum to protect my hands, nails & cuticles from the elements and keep them hydrated & healthy. I decided on this glossy gray & metallic french manicure after keeping my nails bare for a couple of days! Figured I'd go for something dark before I break out all of my favorite pinks & reds for Valentine's Day!

Check out more tips from Julep below, check out my favorite Julep polishes & shop all of my favorite nail care products so you can give yourself a winterizing manicure!

If you regularly read my blog then you know this fur vest has been on heavy rotation (here, here, here, here...) ever since I bought it last month, so it was only fitting that it was included in my January Go-To Outfit post!!

When I first drafted this post I wrote something along the lines of "January 2015's Go-To post was totally different that January 2014's post in regards to weather"...then I watched the weather on the news. Let's just say I spoke too soon considering I'm currently trapped inside my apartment with 12 inches of snow on the ground. Not really complaining though considering I don't have anything on my schedule except cleaning my closet, eating butternut squash soup & catching up on TV shows!

Don't miss my December Go-To Outfit, perfect for a casual Valentine's Day look!
Head over Tracy & Taylor's blogs for full details on their looks!

Makeup Monday: Complexion Rescue

Berry Lipstick | Makeup Monday | #LivingAfterMidnite

Let's talk about my skin! Traveling severely dried it out & ever since I've been back it just hasn't been the same...until now!! Two weeks ago bareMinerals launched their newest product, Complexion Rescue, with an amazing party at their Soho store & I'm SO glad I went. I've been using Complexion Rescue every single day since I picked it up & my skin has literally done a 180 from the dry, tight, dull skin it was 2 weeks ago. Complexion Rescue claims to increase skin's hydration 215% after just one week & the claims are 100% true! I've been using it mostly as a moisturizer under my foundation because I need a little more coverage than it offers, but it literally makes my skin glow & I can guarantee I won't be changing my routine anytime soon, especially not while it's still cold out. Don't believe me? Just compare last week's Makeup Monday to this week's!
  1. Prime face with Skindinavia Makeup Primer Spray (c/o) to prep skin for foundation. Moisturize skin with bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer (c/o), followed by Clinique Redness Solutions Foundation around nose, chin and any other trouble spots. Conceal under eye circles with IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer (c/o).
  2. Benefit Hoola Bronzer (c/o) to hollows of cheeks and around hair line. Dust bareMinerals Blush in Stellar (c/o) to apples of cheeks. Set makeup with Bare Minerals Mineral Veil (c/o).
  3. Prime eyelids with Julep Eye Primer (c/o). Apply bareMinerals Eyecolor in Pizzazz (c/o) to entire lid. Apply bareMinerals Eyecolor in Shiver (c/o) to crease & blend. Line upper lashes with Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner. Curl lashes with mark. Make Me Lash Eyelash Curler. Prime upper & lower lashes Urban Decay Subversion Lash Primer & follow with 3 coats of tarte Gifted Mascara (c/o). Groom and fill in brows with Benefit Gimme Brow
  4. Highlight cheekbones & inner corners of eyes with mark. Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes.
  5. Finish lips with Topshop Lipstick in The Damned.

It wouldn't be a fashion refresh without a little bit lot of sequins. While it's more customary to end the year with sequins as opposed to starting the year with them I'm all about changing it up in 2015 and let's be honest I just really wanted to wear this dress (again)! When it comes to fashion, this year is all about wearing what I want when I want...if that means wearing gym clothes to work on a Thursday or a sequin dress on a Saturday that's what I'm going to do! I've also been much better about posting my everyday outfits & looks that don't make it to the blog on my Instagram lately & I've been getting a great response from all my followers, so if you're not following me you should!

Room for Style: Decorating | Refresh in 2015

Let's jump start the new year!

January is when I take the time and walk through my house and see what I want or need to refresh. Sometimes it's just a matter of moving things around and sometimes it's time to change out. Either way I'm always conscious of my budget. So let's get started!
Jump Start the New Year by Decorating | #LivingAfterMidnite
Inspiration thanks to HGTV. The white & blues make this a very relaxing room & very easy to reproduce. I would start with the paint color, try Benjamin Moore Serenata AF-535 for the walls & Constellation AF-540 for the trim.

When I need inspiration I grab a few magazines or sit with my computer and surf the web, but that's just for the ideas. Now the work begins finding an affordable substitution.

Who said your can't have a pretty laundry room? This simple valance can be made using a board as long as the width of your window, a yard or fabric & some twine or rope.

Bookcases must be dressed...& not just with books! Rummage through your home and find interesting things - favorite photos anything with a pop of color and start building.

This sitting area can be pulled together relatively inexpensively. Place your favorite chair in the corner of your bedroom, frame a photo in an oversized frame & shop for an interesting side table. As the the mirror and film reel, these are items you can shop for at flea markets or you can even get an inexpensive mirror, frame it yourself then stain or paint it! ((& did you see that headboard in the reflection? DIY!))

These are just a few photos I'm working with to inspire me this year!
Have fun finding your inspiration...
