Photo Diary: Newport, RI

Newport, Rhode Island

Newport, Rhode Island has been on my vacation bucket list for a long time and I'm so glad I finally got to check it off! If you follow me on on Instagram & Snapchat (jackiegiardina) you know a few weeks ago my mom and I escaped reality for a few days and had the most amazing time exploring Newport. It was both of our first times there and with help from friends and family that have already visited we planned the perfect trip. Other than an unexpected rainy day I don't think our trip could've been any better!

Newport isn't a large city at all (only 11 square miles), but there is SO much to see and do. We tried to fit everything into 4 short days but it just wasn't possible! Here is a peek into our trip including my favorite photos and recommendations on what to do and where to eat and stay! I'm definitely planning a trip back so I'd love to know what your favorite Newport spots are.

Newport, Rhode Island

1. Walk the Cliff Walk in comfortable shoes preferably on a morning when it's not too hot! The Cliff Walk is a 3.5 mile walkway along the shore line of Newport and is an attraction you can't miss. You get the best view of the coast and many of the beautiful mansions that Newport is famous for.

2. Visit The Breakers and prepare to be amazed. Walking into The Breakers, the summer cottage of the Vanderbilt family, was like walking into Versailles in France. You just can't believe your eyes when you see the opulence and realize that people actually called this ridiculous mansion home not too long ago.

3. Eat at The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar. I suggest making a reservation for the outdoor patio right around sunset because the view is amazing!! Order oysters (obviously), Mooring Caesar Salad and the Portuguese Roasted Cod. Midtown Oyster (order the crab roll!) and The Red Parrot (order the Lobster BLT) are other amazing options!!

4. Stroll down Bellevue Avenue. You can't fully appreciate Newport's charm without getting lost in this historic neighborhood. The architecture of the mansions paired with the perfect New England beach town touches make every single building and house in the city something to stare at.

5. Stay at one of the Lark Hotels. We stayed at The Attwater, but they also own Gilded, another boutique hotel in Newport. The quirky decor of these boutique hotels is obviously what immediately caught our eye, but I can honestly say there isn't one part of this hotel that we didn't enjoy. The staff was amazing, the decor of the rooms and lounge areas of the hotel was like no other and the complimentary breakfast was better then I couldn't ever imagined.

6. BONUS! Go sailing!! Our sailing trip got unfortunately cancelled due to bad weather, but I've heard from multiple people that seeing Newport from the water is a must when visiting! When I go back I'm definitely re-booking our sailing trip.

If you saw my Instagram post from last night you know that the end of Summer depression is starting to set it and I'm so not ready for it. There are so many more vacations to take and pools to swim in and florals to wear! I have a few more weeks of Summer programing for you here because it's still hot out and I'm sure I'm not the only one that needs a little bit of warm weather style inspiration especially when it feels like you've worn everything you own to death already.

This mixed pattern outfit is the first look I wore in Newport, RI a few weeks ago. All summer I was on the hunt for the perfect pair of nude sandals to wear with this floral romper and often resorted to wearing it with flip flops because no other casual shoe I had looked right until I was packing for my trip and realized this mini wedge snake skin sandals was just the neutral shoe I needed to pair it with. I opted for a few flash tattoos instead of packing a lots of jewelry options and threw on my new favorite cat eye sunglasses instead a full face of makeup and just like that this turned into the perfect easy and casual look not only for a trip but also to wind down the Summer.

Check back tomorrow for my Newport, Rhode Island Photo Diary and Travel Recommendations!

Makeup Monday: Glam Red Lip

Glam Red Lip Makeup
Glam Red Lip Makeup

If you follow me on Snapchat then you know I used my ring light to take makeup photos for the first time this weekend and not only is this thing blinding and hot as hell, but I haven't quite got the settings right with my camera while using it yet so bear with me while I figure it out. I really love this look so I'm grateful that at least a few photos turned out okay!

I've been wearing a lot of red lipstick lately probably, because I've been super lazy about doing my eye makeup, but I was headed to a party this weekend and decided to play around a little. I never do this severe of a color in my crease when I'm not wearing a dark shadow on my lid, but love the way it turned out. I wish I would've actually brought the color up a little higher.

I'm hoping to get my makeup posts back on track and if anyone has any tips for shooting with a ring light please share!!
  1. Apply MAC Pro-Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation to face with damp beautyblender. Conceal under eye circles with It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concelear
  2. Using bareMinerals California Bronze Palette (c/o) apply The Ocean View to hollows of cheeks and around hair line. Apply bareMinerals Blush in Daybreak to apples of cheeks and blend. Set makeup with bareMinerals Mineral Veil (c/o). Highlight cheekbones with mark. Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes.
  3. Prime eyelids with Julep Eye Primer (c/o). Apply Celebrate from bareMinerals The Sexy Neutrals Palette  (c/o) from lashline to brow. Prime upper lashes with Urban Decay Subversion Lash Primer & follow with 3 coats of Maybelline The Falsies Mascara. Groom and fill in brows with Benefit Gimme Brow

White on white, one of my favorite "color" combinations! This isn't the first time you've seen me wear it and it definitely won't be the last. One thing I noticed while looking back at old posts and putting this one together was that I always gravitate towards white at the end of the summer and beginning of Fall. I suspect it's because I'm all jacked up on bright colored everything in the Spring and early Summer after a long cold winter or the fact that the last thing I want to wear when I'm ghostly pale in April, May & parts of June is a color palette I'm going to blend in to...I'm leaning towards the latter. Either way there's nothing better than blending a crisp all white Summer outfit with a Summer glow, a bold red lip and Fall (eek!) accessories.

There's a whole lotta new happening in this post! The sunglasses, the vest, the bag, the shoes ((the HAIR))!! I didn't intend to wear basically every single new thing in my wardrobe in one post, but it just worked out and I'm kinda loving it. You all know I'm a huge fan of olive colored everything so I can guarantee this vest will be on heavy rotation once it's not 90 degrees anymore. I pretty much haven't stopped using this gold bag since it arrived at my house and two thumbs up to FINALLY finding a pair of skinny strap nude sandals that fit me!!

Seriously Happy Friday happening over here!

Room for Style: Decorating | White on White

White Home Decor

A white room is like a blank canvas for an artist to paint on, it allows you to introduce any color into it. It's classic and it's easy to change things up whenever you get bored with it.

White Home Decor

One of my favorite things to do in a bedroom is a white on white color palette.

White Home Decor

I know you're asking yourself, "white on white" how boring is that? Well there are so many shades of white to choose from why not incorporate a few together in one room. One way is with paint. You have your walls, ceiling, trim and doors to introduce your first layer of different white tones. Then get creative with white furniture with a little bit of texture.

White Home Decor

So now you need to think about the over all look, do you continue adding whites to the room or do you stop there and change it up by adding color to the canvas?

White Home Decor

Here is a very cozy and inviting breakfast area. Soft whites with the addition of a warm wood flooring and woven shades and cool blue fabric on the chair seats.

White Home Decor

I just love this open floor plan. This is the perfect example of a white canvas with the addition of natural tones and textures.

As you can see white isn't boring, it's just the opposite, it's the opportunity to be creative. So all of you that are renting a space that can't be painted this post should really help you make sure place your home.
