I think it's really funny that my entire Instagram feed has been super colorful all month long, but the posts that actually made it to the blog (fashion wise) have been pretty neutral! That needs to change next month, I have no idea what's gotten into me!

The fact that you can easily add GIFs to your tweets now makes Twitter infinitely better! Let's just say my GIF game has been on point lately and if you're not following me on Twitter you should!

Calling on Tri-State area readers!!! I'm teaming up with Westchester Magazine to give away tickets to their 2016 Wine & Food Festival. Be on the lookout on Instagram over the weekend to enter to win 2 tickets to the Burger & Beer Blast and 2 tickets to the Grand Tasting Village!

I did a HUGE closet clean out and got rid of 6 garbage bags filled with clothes!! Lucky for you I listed a TON of items on my Poshmark closet. All prices are negotiable and I'm offering 20% off when you purchase 2 or more items! Use Code: HSWVE when you sign up to get $10 off your first purchase.

STILL OBSESSED with Ditto.com's Endless Eyewear service ((the greatest idea ever))! It's a subscription service that let's members rent designer sunglasses & swap them out for a new pair anytime them want! It's only $24/month and when you sign up with code: LIVINGAFTERMIDNITE your first month is FREE! I haven't taken this Karen Walker pair off since they came in the mail! What pair should I get next? I'm loving these Prada ones.

I've been writing a ton of articles on Mode.com so make sure you head over and check them out! Here are a couple favorite from this month: "9 Sofas That Will Make You Rethink Your Neutral Decor", "The Best Makeup Tips for Girls with Glasses" and "A Case for the Designer Phone Case" What topics should I write about next month?

Looking for more inspiration. Check out my April 2015 Fashion & Beauty Round Up!

Edgy Florals

Burgundy Floral LOFT Dress | Black Faux Leather Zara Jacket | Strappy Black Sandals | Edgy Spring Outfit on Living After Midnite by Jackie Giardina

My style has always had a bit of an edge to it and now that I've gotten older and my style had evolved I've noticed the "edgy touches" I add to outfits are the one thing that have remained a constant since I was in high school. While I love my girly looks and sparkling accessories I always find myself adding something to toughen up my look. Whether it's strappy shoes, a leather jacket, smoky eye makeup, spiky accessories or something else, it's always there and while it may be a far cry from the safety pin covered bags, lip ring and purple hair I sported in high school it's a happy medium.

But seriously I really miss my lip ring...think I can still get away with it (if you look close enough in my Makeup Monday posts you can still see the piercing)?

I sadly waited too long to share this dress on the blog and now it's sold out! I would still check your local store if you love it as much as I do, but instead you still can't find it I've rounded up my favorite LOFT dresses available right now!

6 Ways to Wear a Slip Dress

Slip Dress Spring Outfit | Long White Vest | Banana Republic Red Fringe Sandals | Golden Hour Style on Living After Midnite by Jackie Giardina

One of my favorite trends from the Spring/Summer 2016 Runways is definitely the resurgence of the slip dress! This wildly popular 90s trend is back in a huge way and while I was too young to fully appreciate it back then, I'm a huge fan of slip dresses. It's hands down one of the easiest trends to pull off because there are so many variations of the slip dress itself that no matter what your size, shape or style is you're bound to find a style that looks great on you.

Whether you're looking for something long or short, loose or fitted, colorful or neutral, I guarantee you'll be able to find the perfect slip dress for you. Can you believe Tiffany and I both went with long black slip dress with white vests!? Also SO in love with the scarf necklace look...I'll definitely be stealing that idea. And Kacie's maternity look!! Can't wait to see all the amazing ways she styles the bump!

I'm no stranger to the slip dress trend (you can see me rocking it here, here & here), but for this post I wanted to go for a more sleek dressed up look than I've worn in the past. I've been really into midi length dresses right now (probably because I'm ghostly pale and have giant bruises all over my legs from dancing) so when I found this silky black dress I knew it would work perfectly for this trend. I ended up belting it to accentuate my waist, but I love the way it looks without it too.

I actually just realized as I was typing this that I'm wearing a TON of Spring trends in this outfit - collar necklace, long vest, fringe sandals & of course the slip dress! Excuse me while I pat myself on the back for pulling off the "trendiest" outfit ever (at least I think I did!)

The Do's & Don'ts of Eyelash Extensions

The Do's & Don'ts of Eyelash Extensions | Everything To Know Before Getting Eyelash Extensions | Beauty FAQs on Living After Midnite by Jackie Giardina

I had every intention of writing this post when I first got my eyelash extensions in February, but then I thought to myself "how am I suppose to offer advice about eyelash extensions when I haven't fully experienced them yet?" Fast forward 2 months and now after having my extensions for 2 months and getting them filled twice I'm here to share all about them! First I thought I'd tell you the Do's & Don'ts, general rules to follow when you get eyelash extensions the first time and then I figured I'd finish with other tips and tricks I've learned along the way and my personal experience with them!

The Do's and Don'ts of Eyelash Extensions | Everything To Know Before Getting Eyelash Extensions | Beauty FAQs on Living After Midnite by Jackie Giardina

THE DO'S:
-Only use products that are oil-free. That means face wash, makeup removers, moisturizer, eye cream, etc.
-Get a silk pillowcase (especially if you sleep on your side or stomach). Not only is silk gentler on your face and lashes, but it's better for your skin and hair too!
- Gently brush out your lashes with a clean mascara after getting them wet so they don't clump together. This is especially important if you have tube lashes like I do.
-Take Biotin (or another hair/nail/skin supplement). Strong lashes translate to longer lasting eyelash extensions.

THE DON'TS:
-Don't get your lashes wet for at least 24 hours after getting your extensions. My lash stylist advised me to come to my appointment without any makeup on so that there was no need to wash it off at the end of the day. Every time I've gotten them filled I've stuck to this advice and I highly suggest it.
-No heat or steam for at least 24 hours, that means exercise, grilling, blow drying hair, tanning, etc. The steam and moisture can loosen the adhesive that's keeping your lashes on. After 24 hours the bond should be solid and moisture won't bother them.
-Don't curl your lashes with an eyelash curler, it could pull out your extension.
-Don't rub your eyes or pull on your lashes.
-No waterproof makeup...especially eyeliner! I'm sure if you use waterproof face makeup it wouldn't be a problem as long as you keep it away from your lashes.

More advice I've learned along the way...It's advised not to put mascara on your eyelash extensions, but my stylist let me know that in the few days leading up to a filling you may need to add a little bit of mascara so that your extensions blend into your real lashes better. Usually about 5-7 days before I get my lashes filled I have to use mascara, and even though your extensions are sparse at this point a little bit of mascara can go a LONG way, it makes your lashes (real & fake) look amazing!! Make sure your mascara is NOT waterproof and I suggest making sure it's easily removable so you're not rubbing your eyes to get it off (I use this one and have had great results!)

The Do's and Don'ts of Eyelash Extensions | Everything To Know Before Getting Eyelash Extensions | Beauty FAQs on Living After Midnite by Jackie Giardina

Frequently Asked Eyelash Extension Questions:

How long do they take to get? Your initial appointment will take around 2 to 2 1/2 hours depending on what type of lashes you get and how full you get them. Refill appointments usually take around 1 1/2 hours.

How long do they last? It depends on the person and how quickly your natural lashes fall out, but mine last between 3 & 4 weeks. I usually schedule my lash refills every 3 1/2 weeks.

Does it hurt when you get them put on? Not at ALL! I'm not going to lie it's a little strange at first because you've probably never had someone play with your eyelashes before, but after you get over the initial feeling it's very relaxing. I swear I dozed off once while I was getting them filled. You're laying down, music is playing and your eyes are closed the entire time, it's hard not to feel relaxed.

What type of eyelash extensions do you have? I have Xtreme Lashes Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions. They are synthetic lashes that are thicker near the root and thinner on the tips like your natural lashes. Mine are also tube lashes which means that instead of attaching one lash extension to each of your lashes, a tube is applied over each of my lashes with about 3 eyelash extensions.

The Do's and Don'ts of Eyelash Extensions | Everything To Know Before Getting Eyelash Extensions | Beauty FAQs on Living After Midnite by Jackie Giardina

I'm warning you, you'll get addicted! I never thought I would love my eyelash extensions as much as I do, but I'm obsessed and can't imagine not having them. I am by no means an eyelash extension expert, but before I got them the first time I had a lot of questions and reading a post like this would have been really helpful!

Before your first appointment schedule a consultation with your lash stylist so she can see your lashes and advise you on the best eyelash extensions for you. My stylist told me I had very thick lashes so she suggested getting a very full set because eyelash extensions tend to fall out easier. She really customized my set to compliment my face, eye shape and natural lashes & yours should too!

Feel free to email me with any questions & if you're located in the Tri-State NY/NJ/CT area I get mine done with Nicole at Westchester Lashes (she's the best!) and I highly suggest going there.

Check out some of the makeup tutorials I've done since getting eyelash extensions here, here, here & here!

Confetti Party Nails

Confetti Party Nails | Hot Pink Blue Yellow Chunky Glitter Gradient Negative Space Manicure with RickyColor on Living After Midnite

Not really sure where the idea for this manicure came from, but it was late Friday night, I desperately needed to paint my nails and I wanted to do something easy that wouldn't take too long. I was searching through one of my boxes of new nail polish and I stumbled on these chunky confetti glitter polishes. I received them a while ago and wasn't sure I would ever use them, but inspiration struck and this ombré confetti glitter manicure was born. I'm just going to call them "party nails" because let's be serious...they are the definition of party nails!! Am I right or am I right?

All I did to create this nail art was paint my nails with a clear base polish then layer each of the chunky glitter polishes on the tips of my nails. I dabbed the polish on the tip rather than paint it so that as much glitter as possible was deposited. Just make sure to wait a little bit of time in between each coat so you don't move around the glitter from the previous coat!

So what do you think? Would you try these confetti party nails or are they a little too crazy for you?

Why You Should Paint Your Walls a Neutral Color

Bold Colorful Home Decor Inspiration | Living Room Decorating Ideas | Orange Chair | Zebra Ottoman | Blue Velvet Couch

To color or not to color...that is the question! When you tackle a new decorating project you have to think in layers, one of which is obviously your wall color. I usually get inspired by my fabrics, then choose a wall color that compliments it. Recently what I've been finding is that while colored walls will always be a favorite for some, neutral wall colors are quickly gaining popularity. By sticking to a neutral paint color on your walls you can go crazy with your fabrics and it gives you the options to change it up whenever you want to!

Not sure what color neutral to go with? Here are my favorite Benjamin Moore Neutral Paint Colors, but if you plan on painting don't just pick a color from a swatch and start painting!! Get a few samples of shades you like and paint actual swatches on your walls. Depending on how much light (both natural and artificial) you have in your space the color can look completely different than what it looked like in the store.

Whether you plan on keeping the rest of your room neutral or going bold and colorful with your decor neutral walls are a decision you won't regret! Even if you're not sure which route you're going to take when it comes to furniture and decorations when you have neutral wall paint as a base it's easy to change up the decor of your room whenever it strikes your fancy.

Creamsicle Orange & Pastel Purple Manicure

Creamsicle Orange and Pastel Purple Negative Space Nail Art | Manicure Tutorial | Spring on Living After Midnite by Jackie Giardina
Creamsicle Orange and Pastel Purple Negative Space Nail Art | Manicure Tutorial | Spring on Living After Midnite by Jackie Giardina
Creamsicle Orange and Pastel Purple Negative Space Nail Art | Manicure Tutorial | Spring on Living After Midnite by Jackie Giardina

My first time experimenting with negative space manicures was just about a year ago (see here) and ever since I've been a huge fan! I'm always trying to come up with fun and unique nail art, but sometimes you just have to take a step back and realize that simple is just as great as ornate! This manicure is much more toned down than my normal nail art, but that doesn't make it any less special! It's SO simple to recreate that anyone (yes, anyone) can do it (just cover the part of your nail you want to keep "negative" with tape before painting the rest), and the best part is that if it doesn't chip you can literally wear this manicure for weeks. Negative space near your cuticle = no regrowth...I know I know I'm a genius!
