During the Summer I look for any excuse to clock out of work early on a Friday and head out on a weekend getaway. Whether it's a trip upstate, a weekend at the beach or a exploring a new city you can always count me in. When it comes to packing during the warm weather months I pretty much follow the same guidelines no matter where I'm going. For me summer fashion is all about easy non fussy items that look great when paired together. I'm the queen of overpacking, but with these few tips I've gotten much better at fitting everything I need in 1 bag!

As far as clothes I make it as simple as possible and opt for dresses instead of tops and bottoms (plus I despise shorts so dresses are way more practical for me). 2 short dresses & 1 maxi (in case it's chilly) in a material that doesn't wrinkle, a jean jacket (goes with everything), a bathing suit and a cover up

When it comes to shoes 3 pairs might seem like a lot, but they're all essential. Flip flops for the beach/pool, nicer flat sandals (leave your wedges/heels at home unless you know you're headed somewhere fancy), and sneakers for exploring, white canvas ones are my favorite because they look good with everything.

Onto accessories...one item I can't leave home without in the summer is a hat! My scalp tends to get burned really easily so this is a must have for me, plus it's perfect for to tame that crazy sea salt hair. And sunglasses are pretty much a given...I don't think you needed me to tell you that! I don't always bring jewelry with me on weekend trips so I didn't include it as an essential, but when I do it's a fun pair of statement earrings or a bold colorful bracelet.

I try to keep it light in the beauty department when I travel. Sunscreen is an essential...this one is great for both your face and your body so you don't have to pack double. And as far as makeup I always opt for bronzer and blush to enhance my tan and mascara to open my eyes!

Now the bags to pack it all in! You might have noticed I'm featuring the same weekender bag from my Fall Travel Essential post because honestly it's the best...I have it and it's seriously perfect! Personally I like to bring 2 options for everyday bags...a colorful beach tote to carry any books/magazine/snacks for the trip and a cross body in a bright color to keep your hands free when you're out!

Did I miss anything? What are your summer travel essentials?

Fourth of July Manicure

Fourth of July Manicure
Fourth of July is 2 days away and now thanks to this red, white and blue (& silver) manicure my nails are ready for it! I look for any opportunity to give myself a festive manicure and Independence Day is no exception. I couldn't settle on one theme so I incorporated a little bit of everything into this one...stars, stripes and whatever you want to call whats on my pointer finger! Seriously in love with the star nail stamp I used on my ring finger nail, it took all my strength not to do all my nails like that and call it a day....I can promise this won't be the last time you see that design!

Have you given yourself the perfect Fourth of July manicure yet?
Check out my Independence Day nail art from 201420132012 & 2011 for more inspiration.

Instead of your normal red, white and blue striped Fourth of July look I figured I'd switch it up and swap bright red for minty green. Navy and mint is one of my favorite color combos and when you pair it with white it becomes the perfect summer color trio. Shorts are not my favorite (hate is a strong word, but I'm pretty close to hating them), but everyone needs the perfect nautical striped top/crisp white shorts look to watch fireworks in!

Life Lately...June 2015

Life Lately June 2015

Life Lately June 2015
When you get invited to a Holiday preview (can't believe companies are already showing Holiday collections) on a boat you don't hesitate to say yes! This selfie and the shot of the Manhattan Bridge above were from a cruise around the Hudson with Red Light PR and Bella Dahl earlier this month. If you follow me on Snapchat (@jackiegiardina) then you got a peek into the craziness of what happens when you "trap" a bunch of bloggers on a boat for 3 hours!

NYC summer rooftop season is in full swing and I have a long list of ones I'm hoping to visit this year. This pic was taken at the Refinery Rooftop, hands down one of my favorites because a majority of it is inside which let's it stay open all year long!
Life Lately June 2015
For me weekends in the summer are all about relaxing, but sometimes I need to get off my butt and out exploring because after 27 years living in NY there are still so many places I need to see. This (& these) were snapped on the Peekskill Riverfront one Sunday afternoon exploring with my mom.

Of course we would literally pick the hottest day of the year so far to head to Citi Field to see the San Francisco Giants play the Mets. Of course up until that day nights were chilly so I wore jeans and seriously regretted my decision when it was still 90 degrees and humid at 11pm and I was melting. And I still stand by my decision that Citi Field is nicer than Yankee Stadium.
Life Lately June 2015
I'm not ashamed to admit that 2 out of the 4 weekends this month I literally did nothing but sit by (or in) the pool and read.

Have you ever been to Point Lookout, NY? It's a teeny tiny hamlet just between Jones Beach and Long Beach Island and my new favorite place ever. I was there for a baby shower over the weekend and I fell in love with the quaint beach houses, cute seaside restaurants, bike riding residents and 15 mph speed limit on all the roads. It's almost impossible to believe that you're just a few minutes from all the craziness that is Jones Beach.
Life Lately June 2015
Would you believe that I haven't been on a picnic since I was a kid? Living in NY I feel like picnicking is a way of life. After this impromptu picnic with Megan it's clear I need to up my outdoor eating game.

Umm did you know that Dylan's Candy Bar on 3rd Ave in NYC has a bar and restaurant on the top floor? Yeh, me either! The food is delicious and the candy inspired drinks like this Nerdy Mojito (yes, those are actual nerds in the bottom and a swedish fish "swimming" on top) are amazing! Definitely somewhere to stop by if you're in that area.
Life Lately June 2015
Dancing season is over and I literally don't know what to do with all my free time at night. Don't get me wrong, I love the break and I love getting to RSVP yes for events that I usually can't make it to, but it's only been a month and I miss it. Not going to lie, I already started a Spotify playlist of potential recital songs for next year.

If you didn't already know, I'm the queen of embarrassing photo booth pictures. These are only a couple of the funny ones I took with Melissa and Megan at the smartwater Lounge, I'll spare your eyes from the more ridiculous ones.

Until next month...

Instant Ombre Nails

If you have a bottle of glitter nail polish in your collection, I guarantee you can give yourself an ombre manicure in just a few minutes! Paint one coat of glitter polish on your whole nail, another coat on the top 3/4 of your nail, the next on the top half and one last coat on just the tip! Make sure your layers are thin because they'll take forever to dry if they aren't, but other than that you can't really mess this one up! In other words there's NO reason why you shouldn't be trying this out on yourself this weekend!

Easy Breezy

Effortless is the first word that comes to mind when it comes to my weekend wardrobe. Like I mentioned in yesterday's post, on most Friday afternoons you can find me leaving work a little early to head upstate for a few days of relaxing and the only things you can find in my suitcase are easy breezy dresses, like this and this (and bathing suits obviously). Not going to lie I try to leave the house as little as possible (except for the occasional Dunkin' Donuts run), but when I do I want to be able to just throw on something fast and it still look like I tried. This particular dress looks perfect on it's own paired with beachy waves and sunglasses, but looks just as great belted (like this!) to accentuate your shape!

What's your summer weekend wardrobe like?
