Life Lately...July 2015

Boston, MA

July Life
July Life
I'm not even going to bother writing a caption on these photos because you can read my full Boston post to find out all about my trip! I've said it before and I'll say it again, Boston is one of my favorite cities and if you haven't had the chance to visit it yet pick a weekend and plan a trip, you won't regret it.

July Life
One thing I'm definitely going to talk about again is the two amazing places we ate brunch at while I was in Boston. The Beehive, in the South End neighborhood of Boston, was one of the prettiest restaurants I've ever gone to! Every weekend from 10am-3pm The Beehive offers Jazz Brunch, aka mimosas, breakfast and live music! Make a reservation if you plan on going, it's impossible to get in without one!

And onto the greatest Bloody Mary ever! The Met Back Bay offers a a crafty mary checklist where you can create your own custom Bloody Mary. While I'm pretty new to the whole Bloody Mary scene this is hands down the most amazing one I've EVER had, and probably ever will! You get to choose the alcohol, rim, mixer and heat level along with whatever fix-ins and garnishes you'd like...I got a Belvedere Bloody Mary with bacon salt, Tabasco, Worcestershire and Horseradish topped with celery, lemon, lime, olives, pepperocini and shrimp! Not going to lie you probably don't even need to order a meal with all the options you can get added to your drink.

I also suggest Dillons & Atlantic Fish Co. if you're looking for lunch or dinner spots!

July Life
Another month, another mention of bartaco. Nothing has changed here, but what has changed is that they are finally adding more locations!! Now you don't need to live in Connecticut or New York to taste the best tacos ever...bartaco is officially open is Atlanta, Virginia & Tampa, FL!

I honestly can't believe I'm already going to Holiday events! I'm still trying to grasp the fact that summer is half way over, I'm not ready for Fall let alone Winter!! BUT when you get invited to a champagne tasting you don't say no! Taittinger invited Megan and I to taste their 4 signature champagnes paired with an amazing southern inspired menu and along with the amazing decor and party ideas, it kinda got me put me in the Holiday spirit...for a few hours at least.

July Life
Jet Blue's insane flash sale on Wednesday got me desperate for a trip. No joke I think I sat at my computer pricing out about 5 or 6 different vacations I could potentially take, but of course it's now Friday and the sale is over and I didn't end up booking anything. I am hopefully going to Long Beach Island, NJ for a day or two next week, I haven't gone since in over 15 years so I'm pretty excited about seeing how much it's changed. I also booked a trip to Newport, RI with my mom in 2 weeks, neither of us has ever been so if you have I'd love to know your suggestions. Where to eat, what to do, what to see?

Until next month...

I've been seriously slacking this month...15 (now 16) posts for the entire month...and one week where I was completely MIA. #sorrynotsorry but sometimes you just need to take a break.

I was just introduced to Ditto.com's Endless Eyewear service, the greatest idea ever! It's a subscription service that let's members rent designer sunglasses & swap them out for a new pair anytime them want! It's only $19/month and when you sign up with code: LIVINGAFTERMIDNITE your first month is FREE! I'm currently waiting for my first pair (these Karen Walkers) to arrive!

After last year's super popular Fall Travel Essentials post, I figured a Summer Travel Essentials Guide was in order! There's still plenty of time to go on vacation this season, hopefully this will make packing a little bit easier!

My mirror selfies were on point this month (even though WhoWhatWear says their a cliche...they're your favorite Instagram pics of mine & I'm going to post them anyway)! I  promise you'll see more of these outfits next month!

Did anyone else read this article about how an Australian Cosmo Editor tattooed her lips to give them a fuller look?? I don't think I could ever do it, but they look amazing!

I need some makeup inspiration! Leave me a comment to tell me what type of look you want me to create in August!

Mode recently launched their new website & I'm happy to announce that I'll be contributing style, beauty & decor articles regularly! Follow me to read the stories I've posted so far & make sure to let me know if there's a certain topic you want me to cover!

I'm doing a hardcore closet cleaning out right now & have listed a TON of items on both Bib + Tuck & Poshmark! All prices are negotiable & I'm willing to bundle items at a discount! If your shoe size is an 8 1/2 or 9 I'd pop over & take a look!

Looking for more inspiration. Check out my June Fashion & Beauty Round Up!

Sale Alert!

BaubleBar's Christmas in July Sale is AMAZING! 30% off Sitewide with code: XMASINJULY

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is still happening and if you haven't heard about it you've been living under a rock. I didn't do a post about it and this will be the only mention of it, I'm not saying it's not amazing or anything, but if I see one more post about it or see another blogger wearing her Fall purchases in the 95 degree weather I'm going to scream...((end rant)).

Lulu's is having a GIANT sale and I literally want every single thing!!! This jumpsuit...dying!

From Back Bay through the Commons to the Waterfront up to the North End and finally to Beacon Hill, this dress got me through a long day and a lot of walking, and since I've been home from Boston I've worn it 2 more times. I'm not doing a Go-To Outfit post this month, but if I had to pick a look I can pretty confidently say this would be it. I was never drawn towards trapeze swing dresses in the past because I didn't think they would flatter my shape, but once I added one to my wardrobe I quickly added a few more and this paisley one is the newest addition. This dress is so comfortable, lightweight and perfect for traveling because despite being shoved in my bad it didn't wrinkle at all! It was so fun being able to shoot photos in so many different Boston neighborhoods throughout the day instead of just in one area. Don't miss my Boston Travel Guide to see my favorite places to visit and eat in the city & check back next week for details on the second out from my trip!

Makeup Monday: Buxom Metallic Eye Shadow

Buxom Metallic Eye Shadow Look
Buxom Metallic Eye Shadow Look

Buxom Metallic Eye Shadow Look
I need more eyeshadow like I need more holes in my head, but these new Buxom shadows showed up at my door and once I opened the package I couldn't wait to use them. When I was younger I used to think all shadows were created equal, but after trying my fair share of different brands and types I can definitely say that is definitely not true. These Buxom shadows are not only highly pigmented and give off intense color payoff, but I just found out they're primer-infused which makes them virtually budge proof, especially when they're layered over another eye primer. I wore these shadows to a wedding in 95 degree weather last weekend and I was extremely impressed that they didn't crease or smudge at all.

If you've read my Makeup Monday series before you know that I'm a lover of metallic eye shadows and if you're not you need to start wearing them now! Don't mistake metallic for shimmery or glittery...metallic shadows like these are light catching and perfect for highlighting and bringing all the attention to your eyes.

This black and white palm tree dress is probably one of my top 3 favorite dresses that I own. I wear it so much (ie: here, here and here in a different color) that when I went to shoot these photos my sister literally asked me how many times am I going to post about it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and I guarantee I'll be wearing this dress until it falls apart and I'm not sorry about it.

Room for Style: Decorating | Black & White

Black and White Decor
Black and White Decor
Are black and white colors?
It's debatable...it all depends on who you ask. Some people say black is, but white isn't. I say who cares, they're both important in decorating. I always like a little black in every room, I feel like it grounds it. White, well it just always appears in some form without even trying.

Let's take a look at some classic examples...
Black and White Decor
Black walls - definitely not something you see often, but you have to admit it looks great!

Black and White Decor
A black lacquer accent table with a pair of zebra lamps is the perfect black and white combination.

Walk through your home and see where you can add a little unexpected pop of black or see if you have already done it. You see how it can be added in furniture, paint and accessories...the options are endless.

Summer Body Skincare Routine

Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Lotion
Being a beauty blogger I'm constantly getting tons of products to test out and while it's great to be able to try so many different things, I have sensitive skin so I'm really conscious about what I put on my body. One routine I try to keep constant is my body skincare routine, but honestly most of the time I'm so worried about the skin on my face that I often neglect my body.

Depending on the time of year and how dry my skin is I like alternate different products, but I always start my nightly routine with dry brushing. Not familiar with dry brushing? The name says it all, it's brushing your (dry) body with a natural bristle brush (I use this one), to increase circulation, open up pores, aid in digestion, strengthen the immune system and eliminate toxins (it's even known to reduce cellulite). If you're interested in learning more about how to properly dry brush your skin, check out this video.

After dry brushing it's important to get right in the shower to wash off all of the exfoliated, dead skin. Once I'm out I towel dry off and apply my favorite moisturizer. In the winter I tend to use a thicker lotion that can help combat my extremely dry skin, but in the summer I opt for something lighter. Vaseline's new Intensive Care Aloe Soothe Spray Moisturizer is perfect because it absorbs immediately and leaves my skin super soft without being greasy. I love the spray because honestly dry brushing takes a little bit of time and once I'm out of the shower the only thing I can think about is throwing on my pjs and heading to sleep. Thankfully Vaseline's continuous spray is fool proof and ensures even all-over coverage in just a few minutes. I just spray it down each leg and arm and across my stomach and rub it in and I'm done. This soothing aloe formula is perfect for sun-kissed summer skin because not only will it keep it super hydrated (the key to making your sun-kissed tan last longer), but the pure aloe will also soothe your skin if you got too much sun.

Since following this dry brushing/moisturizing routine I've noticed a huge change in my skin, especially on the back of my thighs. My skin is much smoother and all over healthier looking, which makes me much more confident in the summer when it comes to wearing shorts, dresses and bathing suits!
