I may be flying solo this Valentine's Day, but that doesn't mean I don't want to get in the spirit with a fun themed manicure! I had a ton of ideas, but my roommate got me a nail polish latex barrier for Christmas that I've been dying to use so I went with an ombre gradient manicure in my favorite pink polishes!! Before I get to gushing over this super cool Valentine's Day Pink Ombre Manicure let me just explain to you how much I LOVE this Simply Peek Latex Barrier. Basically you brush it on your cuticles then paint your nails as you normally would then you peel off the latex and your cuticles (and the skin around your nails) are polish free! As for this nail art, I started with just 2 colors (the hot pink & dark red glitter), but then I just kept sponging on different colors to create a more drastic look and love it! Just another reason for you to try it out, even if you're bad at giving yourself manicures you literally can't mess this one up!!

Not everyone is a fan of a red lip for Valentine's Day so today's I'm changing it up and sharing this rosy eye/nude lip look that's perfect no matter what activities you have planned for February 14th! I know a lot of people tend to stay away from colored eyeshadow, but I'm here to tell you that you need to embrace it! The world would be a boring place if you always stuck to neutrals, every once and a while you need to break out the colors especially when they're as pretty as this. This rosy/mauve eyeshadow is a great alternative to a taupe brown and when paired with a nude lip and subtle pink blush it creates a perfectly balanced look that anyone can pull off! I never thought I would be pushing for you to wear pink eyeshadow for Valentine's Day, but when it's this pretty how could I not! Check back next week for another V-Day makeup look!

Makeup Monday Soft Rose Eye Makeup Tutorial:
  1. Prep face with bliss Triple Oxygen Energizing Vitamin C Day Cream (c/o). Apply Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer to face with damp beautyblender. Conceal under eye circles with bareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer. Set foundation with bareSkin Perfecting Veil (c/o).
  2. Apply IT Cosmetics CC + Radiance Ombre Bronzer (c/o) to hollows of cheeks and around hair line. Apply IT Cosmetics CC + Radiance Ombre Blush (c/o) to apples of cheeks and blend. 
  3. Apply Enchanting from IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Romantics Palette (c/o) to lid from last to crease and along lower lashes. Apply In the Buff from bareMinerals The Sexy Neutrals Palette (c/o) over Enchanting and into crease. Apply Perspective from same palette to center of lid and on outer corner of lower lashes and blend. Highlight inner corner of eyes and under brows with Nude Beach. Line upper lashes with Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner. Curl lashes with Sephora Show Curl Lash Curler. Apply 3 coats of Maybelline The Falsies Mascara to upper and lower lashes. Groom and fill in brows with Benefit Brow Zings
  4. Fill in lips with NUDESTIX Lip Pencil in Whisper (c/o). Apply LAQA & Co. Lip Pencil in Wolfman (c/o) topped with Buxom Cosmetics Full-On Lip Polish in Karen (c/o) to center of lips.

6 Bundled Up Looks

I know what you're thinking...bundled up? This outfit is hardly a bundled up Winter look for someone who lives in New York. Well let me explain...up until this week we've had a pretty mild Winter and I just really couldn't bring myself to break out my heavy coat until it was absolutely necessary. We went from it being 70 degrees (that's not a typo) on Christmas Eve to a mild 50 degree early January to a frigid 25 degrees with 20+ inches of snow last week. These photos were clearly taken during that mild 50 degree streak. So truth be told "bundled up" when it's that hot is a cozy sweater and beanie!

Funny story about when I was taking these photos. The forecast called for zero rain, but when we started shooting the sky got black and it started nasty misting rain, then about 20 minutes later the clouds cleared and the sun came out. You can literally see the fine rain in some of these photos and the sun shining in others, and lets just say a lot of these pics were deleted the second they were uploaded on my computer because my hair looked like a frizzy humid wet mess...thank god for hats! And if you're wondering why the faux fur on this cardigan looks like a mess you know.

In other news, you need this sweater! I've worn it about 6 times over the past month and I can't get enough of it. It's super soft and drapes perfectly AND the fur trim comes off (not that I ever plan on doing that) so it's basically like 2 sweaters in one!! Garnet Hill really knocked it out of the park with this one! I'm also LOVING this black one!

My Valentine's Day Wishlist

Just because I don't have a significant other doesn't mean I can't treat myself to a Valentine's Day treat (or two!). Usually I'm all about the chocolate (dark please!), but this year I've been so good about sticking to my diet and workout routine that I'm leaning towards a gift that's a little more permanent! There's nothing over "Valentine's Day-y" about these ten gifts, but that doesn't mean they aren't the perfect V-Day (or Singles Awareness Day) gift to myself!

I recently did a MAJOR closet clean out (I'm talking 6+ bags of clothes gone) so I really got a chance to access what staples I have and don't have and what pieces I'm wearing a lot and others that I'm not. I just added bigger items like most perfect gray suede OTK boots and super flare jeans to my wardrobe and now I'm looking for a few smaller pieces to round it all out!

I've been really into the whole sneakers/cuffed jeans look over the past few months. I don't know if its the lack of Winter we've been having or that my style is changing, but I've been doing a lot of sneaker browsing! Slip-ons and converse are my fav so I'm thinking of adding a bright red pair to my collection, but these pistachio New Balances caught my eye and I might need them too!

As far as jewelry I'm pretty set, but right now I'm all about the ear jackets and crawlers and this floral gold one has been haunting my dreams (along with this pearl one), and I've developed a little bit of a navy home decor obsession right now and after seeing this cocktail ring I think the crush has made it's way over to the accessory department. 

I think I may have finally found the perfect deep deep burgundy lip color (shade: Mercy) that I've been searching for forever. I don't know why I didn't think to look at Kat von D's line before, but considering she's the queen of the dark lip I feel pretty stupid for not looking sooner.

I'm also on the hunt for a new travel mug. This "Starter Fluid" one is pretty funny, but I'm looking for something even more ridiculous (ie: references alcohol or has some curse word on it). If you find one send it my way!

I'm stepping out of my comfort zone in the realm of red lipstick today with this bright orangey red shade! I'm no stranger to red lipstick (or any color lipstick for that matter), but this might be the first color that made me second guess my look. While I don't hate the way it looks on me, after seeing these photos it's safe to say that I think I would've liked this gold eyed look much better if it was paired with a more blue red or even a shade with a little purple or brown in it. 

I think I'm going to pack my orangey shades in the back of my makeup drawer until Summer, but I didn't want to didn't want this look to go to waste. Gold eyes and red lips will always be one of my favorite looks and with Valentine's Day coming up I'm sure both you and I will be wearing it soon!

  3. Apply Schmooze from bareMinerals The Power Neutrals Palette (c/o) from lash line to crease and along lower lashes. Apply Boardroom from same palette in crease, outer corner and blend. Line upper lashes with Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner. Curl lashes with Sephora Show Curl Lash Curler. Prime lashes with Urban Decay Subversion Lash Primer & follow with 1 coat of IT Cosmetics Tightline Mascara (c/o) on roots of lashes and 3 coats of Maybelline The Falsies Mascara. Groom and fill in brows with IT Cosmetics Skinny Brow Pencil (c/o). 
  4. Finish with Urban Decay Lipstick in F-Bomb (c/o) on lips.

February is just over a week away and before we know it Valentine's Day will be here! Whether your single or taken it's fun to add a few festive touches to your home to get ready for the holiday! I'm not talking about red heart placemats and your typical cheesy Valentine's Day decorations, I'm talking about a few romantic touches that will instantly elevate your home decor and add just the right amount of romance without going overboard.

Hands down my favorite way to add romance to a room is with candle light! Whether it's the living room, dining room, bedroom or bathroom the addition of candles will instantly make the space feel more inviting. My favorite style of candles are large white ones like you see in these photos because even when they're not lit they look amazing! You don't even necessarily need candlesticks, some thrifted plates to catch the melted wax would be perfect! This is hands down the best affordable way to up your decor game for Valentine's Day!

Next up, flowers! Don't wait around for someone to buy you them, head to the store and grab a few different bunches to make your own arrangement. Play with different heights, colors, vases and make the bouquet truly your own. Draw inspiration from these photos and step out of your comfort zone!

Like I mentioned in my Cozy Winter Home Decor post, adding comfy, cozy pillows and blankets to the bedroom and living room is one of the ways I transition my home from Summer to Winter and this tip definitely comes into play when it comes to decorating for Valentine's Day. While I love the idea of going out to celebrate the holiday, my favorite way to celebrate it is curled up on the couch (don't you agree?)
