Newport, Rhode Island

Newport, Rhode Island has been on my vacation bucket list for a long time and I'm so glad I finally got to check it off! If you follow me on on Instagram & Snapchat (jackiegiardina) you know a few weeks ago my mom and I escaped reality for a few days and had the most amazing time exploring Newport. It was both of our first times there and with help from friends and family that have already visited we planned the perfect trip. Other than an unexpected rainy day I don't think our trip could've been any better!

Newport isn't a large city at all (only 11 square miles), but there is SO much to see and do. We tried to fit everything into 4 short days but it just wasn't possible! Here is a peek into our trip including my favorite photos and recommendations on what to do and where to eat and stay! I'm definitely planning a trip back so I'd love to know what your favorite Newport spots are.

Newport, Rhode Island

1. Walk the Cliff Walk in comfortable shoes preferably on a morning when it's not too hot! The Cliff Walk is a 3.5 mile walkway along the shore line of Newport and is an attraction you can't miss. You get the best view of the coast and many of the beautiful mansions that Newport is famous for.

2. Visit The Breakers and prepare to be amazed. Walking into The Breakers, the summer cottage of the Vanderbilt family, was like walking into Versailles in France. You just can't believe your eyes when you see the opulence and realize that people actually called this ridiculous mansion home not too long ago.

3. Eat at The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar. I suggest making a reservation for the outdoor patio right around sunset because the view is amazing!! Order oysters (obviously), Mooring Caesar Salad and the Portuguese Roasted Cod. Midtown Oyster (order the Fried Oyster Roll!) and The Red Parrot (order the Monsta Lobsta' BLT and the Cajun Lobster & Shrimp Fritters) are other amazing options!!

4. Stroll down Bellevue Avenue. You can't fully appreciate Newport's charm without getting lost in this historic neighborhood. The architecture of the mansions paired with the perfect New England beach town touches make every single building and house in the city something to stare at.

5. Stay at one of the Lark Hotels. We stayed at The Attwater, but they also own Gilded, another boutique hotel in Newport. The quirky decor of these boutique hotels is obviously what immediately caught our eye, but I can honestly say there isn't one part of this hotel that we didn't enjoy. The staff was amazing, the decor of the rooms and lounge areas of the hotel was like no other and the complimentary breakfast was better then I couldn't ever imagined.

6. BONUS! Go sailing!! Our sailing trip got unfortunately cancelled due to bad weather, but I've heard from multiple people that seeing Newport from the water is a must when visiting! When I go back I'm definitely re-booking our sailing trip.
